Intended audience: Advanced second year students with a mechanical focus.

Educational Goal

This WebQuest shall be developed to introduce students to supplier based standard parts and models that may be incorporated into their own projects and designs.

Standards

This WebQuest shall be developed to satisfy the following:

CETIS CIP code 15.1301:

  • Segment No. 10 3D parametric modeling
  • Segment No. 12 Assembly and Working drawings

Process

Step 1: Students shall be divided into groups of two. Once students are placed into groups they shall select an Assembly (working drawings) from our in class library of design projects (e.g. Engineering Graphics section on working drawings). The teacher will have to approve the assignment based on level of student competency. Step 2: After students have selected a project and have had it approved by the instructor they will scan the BOM (Bill of Materials) for custom and standard components such as bolts, screws, springs, etc. Students will then be required to submit, which parts they will be responsible for creating and incorporating (standard parts) into the Assembly model.

Step 3: Once students have broken down their Assembly prints BOM to components that are purchased (or standard) they shall be instructed to use a search engine and the resource links found in the WebQuest to locate standard component models that are compatible with the Inventor CAD package.

Step 4: Once appropriate model sources have been discovered the group shall incorporate these models into the final Assembly model file.

Step 5: The group shall develop a set of fully developed working prints based on the assembly file. Included in the BOM will be the suppliers name and part number for each standard component used.
